Polaroids 7Born and raised in London, Becky Butwright has been photographing the world around her. Becky focuses mostly on portraiture, using the camera as a way to examine humanity and emphasizing the need for equality within society. Conveying a huge interest in hearing people’s stories, many of her projects have involved collaborative work with the participants and capturing their identity within an image.

Having studied photography since 2013 and moving to Brighton to further her studies at The University of Brighton, Becky has been able to explore her interests and knowledge within the field. At the beginning of her career, Becky had a collaborative exhibition at Autograph ABP, London, in November 2014.

In 2017, Becky created a project examining the LGBTQ community which was placed in a collaborative exhibition at 35 North Gallery, Brighton. Throughout her years at university, Becky has created work which questions issues within society. After exploring and questioning a range of subjects, Becky created the project Self Love of the Human Mind in her final year. The purpose of this project is to raise awareness and to help break down negative connotations surrounding the topic. This work was first publicized in the spring issue of the charity Sussex Oakleaf in 2018, as well as having an exhibition at The Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch. This has become an on going project which will continue to examine and change the ways mental health is viewed within society.

Her passion for helping others fight for equality is the main driving force behind her work. Becky hopes to take her passion to new heights by travelling and getting involved with communities to further document the ever changing world.
